Our church is located in the growing town of
Camden, Delaware. The Camden-Wyoming Area is a suburb immediately southwest of
Dover, Delaware. Our congregation is made of people from all corners of
the map. We have people from
Dover,
Wyoming,
Camden,
Rising Sun,
Magnolia,
Woodside,
Harrington, and many other towns.
This area is growing rapidly as people move away from
Philadelphia and Wilmington. With the construction of Delaware Route
1, commuting workers have quick access to the metro areas
of Wilmington and Philadelphia from our
region. Although this area was once called "Lower-Slower Delaware" we are rapidly being assimilated into the culture of the Northeast Corridor. This
Northeast Corridor runs from Metro Washington
DC to Metro Boston, MA. Recent studies suggest that the Northeast
Corridor is the number 1 unchurched area on the planet. That is,
this region has the greatest density of people who are not part of any
religious group. One secular survey company tells us
that only 16% of Delawareans have attended church
within the last 3 years. Whether these
statistics are right or not, the point must be made
that our community needs Jesus. That's why
we're here.
The Dover area is a mix of old and new. It is an old
generation of farmers, retirees, and others who remember the slower days
of Dover. It is also a new generation of highly mobile people who
expect modern conveniences and who run around all day long whether in work life
or family life. In the midst of this culture change, we exist as a
pillar of truth and as a community of love to all generations in this community.
