Mark 4:21-25 And He was saying to them, "A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand? 22 "For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light. 23 "If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear." 24 And He was saying to them, "Take care what you listen to. By your standard of measure it will be measured to you; and more will be given you besides. 25 "For whoever has, to him more shall be given; and whoever does not have, even what he has shall be taken away from him."

Mark 4:1-20

As a young boy one task that I never enjoyed was going through the field and pick up rocks. I had help on by grandfather’s farm, fields my father farmed and even when I was working for someone. But picking up rocks and getting them out of the field was important if the field was going to be productive. Jesus is going to be teaching us about different soil qualities and what kind of “crops” will be produced.

Mark 4:1-21 He began to teach again by the sea. And such a very large crowd gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land. 2 And He was teaching them many things in parables, and was saying to them in His teaching, 3 "Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sow; 4 as he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up. 5 "Other seed fell on the rocky ground where it did not have much soil; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of soil. 6 "And after the sun had risen, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away. 7 "Other seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it yielded no crop. 8 "Other seeds fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold." 9 And He was saying, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear."

1 Chronicles 13:1-14

In a world of "your ok and I am ok" there are some trends that are of some concern to me. The idea is that simply trying something is all that is necessary to be successful. Yes, I recognize that not every child is going to be a baseball playing and we want them to do their best no matter well they are, as long as they try. And in that context, we want to encourage them. But when to begin to promote the idea that a little effort is all that is required then we open ourselves up to some grave concerns.

David has a simple idea. A great idea but He failed because he assumed that following through on that simple idea was good enough. He didn’t invest to much time or energy to make certain all the details were correct.

1 Chronicles 13: 1- 4 Then David consulted with the captains of the thousands and the hundreds, even with every leader. 2 David said to all the assembly of Israel, "If it seems good to you, and if it is from the Lord our God, let us send everywhere to our kinsmen who remain in all the land of Israel, also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their cities with pasture lands, that they may meet with us; 3 and let us bring back the ark of our God to us, for we did not seek it in the days of Saul." 4 Then all the assembly said that they would do so, for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

Matthew 26:26-29

Many of us are anticipating enjoying a Christmas meal with our family. Some will travel great distances in order to enjoy that meal. The Passover is an equally anticipated celebration. However, when the disciples enjoyed their last Passover with Christ, He provided an explanation that increased the significance.

What is the Passover? A major festival held in the spring to commemorate Israel's deliverance from Egypt. The term is often used of the entire festival celebration (e.g., Ex 12:48; 2 Kings 23:21). It may also designate the Passover sacrifice to be eaten (Ex 12:11; 2 Chron 30:18) and the animal victim, i.e., the "Passover lamb" (Ex 12:21; 2 Chron 30:15).
(from International Standard Bible Encyclopedia, revised edition, Copyright © 1979 by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Co. All rights reserved.)

Ex 12:11 Now you shall eat it in this manner: with your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and you shall eat it in haste — it is the Lord's Passover.

Ex 12:14 Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the Lord; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.

PASSOVER The Passover was to be an opportunity for the father to teach his children. He (not a substitute) was obliged to explain the meaning of the ceremony when his children asked (12:26; 13:8,14).

Mark 1:29-34 29 And immediately after they came out of the synagogue, they came into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 Now Simon's mother-in-law was lying sick with a fever; and immediately they spoke to Jesus about her. 31 And He came to her and raised her up, taking her by the hand, and the fever left her, and she waited on them. 32 When evening came, after the sun had set, they began bringing to Him all who were ill and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city had gathered at the door. 34 And He healed many who were ill with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He was not permitting the demons to speak, because they knew who He was. Doctor’s see more patients, stores handle more customers. Busy, is the new normal. But what will it take to slow us down enough to spend time in prayer?
