Jesus’ Other Mission

- Sermons - Miscellaneous

Preached at the Sunday Morning service on April 11, 2010 by Pastor Ray Bertolet.
Part of the Miscellaneous series.

Spring is here and as you drive by many streams and ponds you will find individuals who will toss a string with a hook into the water with the hope of enticing a fish to latch onto the bait. But what does it take to be a good fisherman? Gone are the days of a simple piece of string and a pole. Now we need the right weight line, special bait that would fool the smartest of fishes, even the right clothes will help catch those elusive fish. What is missing in all this equipment is the proper training. Years spent learning how to use all the tools available.

When Jesus began His ministry He called together a group of men with a specific task. “Making them Fisher's of Men.”

We need to understand that Jesus had another mission beyond dieing on the cross and paying for our sins. He came to train up others to continue the ministry which He would begin.

Pastor Ray – Harry and I just listened to your message. Again, very soul searching and thought provoking. I think of the Scripture passage that says “Examine yourself and see if your in the faith”. This is a daily walk – keep on being filled with the Spirit – confessing sin and renewing right fellowship with the Lord. Good exhortation! Blessings, H&S

God wants us to Himself, with no idols before Him. This message helps us to realize how easy it is to become distracted from the things of the Lord in our daily lives.
