Destructive Pride

- Sermons - Esther

Preached at the Sunday Morning service on May 16, 2010 by Pastor Ray Bertolet.
Part of the Esther series.

Very few people like someone who is smart and likes to let the rest of the world know that they are smart.

Dr. Rodney McKay (a character on Star Gate Atlantis) is a self-described genius. McKay is, in general, perceived to be "arrogant, petty, and bad with people," and himself acknowledges his tendency to be jealous and petty. In addition to a towering ego ….

There is nothing wrong with being smart. Nothing wrong with some pride in ones accomplishment, however, Pride when not keep in check can be a powerful destructive force that feeds our ego and demands that we take additional actions that they we remain number one.

We want to explore that two individuals in positions of power, one was humbled by their responsibility and the other expected everyone to satisfy their every whim.

  1. Sandra Workman says:

Pastor Ray – Harry and I just listened to your message. Again, very soul searching and thought provoking. I think of the Scripture passage that says “Examine yourself and see if your in the faith”. This is a daily walk – keep on being filled with the Spirit – confessing sin and renewing right fellowship with the Lord. Good exhortation! Blessings, H&S

  2. Donna Coverdale says:

God wants us to Himself, with no idols before Him. This message helps us to realize how easy it is to become distracted from the things of the Lord in our daily lives.
