Living Without The Shame

- Sermons - Big 10

Preached at the Sunday Morning service on August 29, 2010 by Pastor Ray Bertolet.
Part of the Big 10 series.

As children we would shout out the phase “Liar, liar, pants on fire.” Then we would laugh away. Maybe in part, because we all recognized that at some level we know we all are liars or maybe because we know no ones pants we really catch on fire. Liar Liar Pants on Fire! is an expression of unknown meaning but well-established origins. In its most complete version, it is rendered “Liar, liar, pants on fire. Hangin’ on a telephone wire!” or "nose is as long as a telephone wire!" It is most commonly associated with accusations of dishonesty.

No one likes to be called a Liar. It is a “harsh” term clearing making a bold statement. Yet when we get to the third commandment we want soften it impact into our life.

Ex 20:7 "You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not leave him unpunished who takes His name in vain. NASU

Pastor Ray – Harry and I just listened to your message. Again, very soul searching and thought provoking. I think of the Scripture passage that says “Examine yourself and see if your in the faith”. This is a daily walk – keep on being filled with the Spirit – confessing sin and renewing right fellowship with the Lord. Good exhortation! Blessings, H&S

God wants us to Himself, with no idols before Him. This message helps us to realize how easy it is to become distracted from the things of the Lord in our daily lives.
