Finding True Rest

- Sermons - Big 10

Preached at the Sunday Morning service on September 5, 2010 by Pastor Ray Bertolet.
Part of the Big 10 series.

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Tell me why is baseball play for some and work for others? What does it really mean to rest?

Today we want to take a look at the fourth command.

Exodus 20:8-11 8 "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 "Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath of the Lord your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. 11 "For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day and made it holy. 1. Sandra Workman says:

Pastor Ray – Harry and I just listened to your message. Again, very soul searching and thought provoking. I think of the Scripture passage that says “Examine yourself and see if your in the faith”. This is a daily walk – keep on being filled with the Spirit – confessing sin and renewing right fellowship with the Lord. Good exhortation! Blessings, H&S

God wants us to Himself, with no idols before Him. This message helps us to realize how easy it is to become distracted from the things of the Lord in our daily lives.
