What Type of Stone are You?

- Sermons - Enjoying Life

Preached at the Sunday Morning service on February 27, 2011 by Pastor Ray Bertolet.
Part of the Enjoying Life series.

Nearly every boy out there knows the art of picking the right stone so that you can skip it across the water. Own my grandfathers farm there was a creek bed with a small pond and many times when we were visit, my brother and I would go down there to skip stones across, doing our best to try and get four skips at least before the stone would sink. Some stones we would pick up we would reject because they wouldn't serve the purpose intended. But sometimes, ones we rejected as “good” we tossed anyway only to learn they did skip. Peter begins today by reinforcing how to love our brothers. This begins by doing two things, laying aside the unnecessary and picking up the required.

1 Peter 2:1-4 Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, 2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation, 3 if you have tasted the kindness of the Lord. NASU

Pastor Ray – Harry and I just listened to your message. Again, very soul searching and thought provoking. I think of the Scripture passage that says “Examine yourself and see if your in the faith”. This is a daily walk – keep on being filled with the Spirit – confessing sin and renewing right fellowship with the Lord. Good exhortation! Blessings, H&S

God wants us to Himself, with no idols before Him. This message helps us to realize how easy it is to become distracted from the things of the Lord in our daily lives.
