Dry Water

- Sermons - Rotten Apples

Preached at the Sunday Morning service on July 3, 2011 by Pastor Ray Bertolet.
Part of the Rotten Apples series.

We have heard the poem writer by Samuel Coleridge which gives us the lines, water water everywhere but not a drop to drink. This poem was written for Mariners.

Day after day, day after day,

We stuck, nor breath nor motion;

As idle as a painted ship
Upon a painted ocean.
Water, water, every where,

And all the boards did shrink;

Water, water, every where,
Nor any drop to drink.

Peter uses a similar illustration for us when speaking about false teacher. He talks about a spring with no water and a storm that only produces a midst instead of a down pour.

2 Peter 2:17 These are springs without water and mists driven by a storm, for whom the black darkness has been reserved.

  1. Sandra Workman says:

    Pastor Ray – Harry and I just listened to your message. Again, very soul searching and thought provoking. I think of the Scripture passage that says “Examine yourself and see if your in the faith”. This is a daily walk – keep on being filled with the Spirit – confessing sin and renewing right fellowship with the Lord. Good exhortation! Blessings, H&S

  2. Donna Coverdale says:

    God wants us to Himself, with no idols before Him. This message helps us to realize how easy it is to become distracted from the things of the Lord in our daily lives.
