Christ's Supply is Sufficient in Our Weakness

- Sermons - Growing Through Life's Challenges

Preached at the Sunday Morning service on September 25, 2011 by Pastor Ray Bertolet.
Part of the Growing Through Life's Challenges series.

Weakness

weak•ness 1. the state or quality of being weak; lack of strength, firmness, vigor, or the like; feebleness. 2. an inadequate or defective quality, as in a person's character; slight fault or defect: to show great sympathy for human weaknesses. 3. a self-indulgent liking or special fondness, as for a particular thing: I've always had a weakness for the opera. 4. an object of special desire; something very difficult to resist: Chocolates were her weakness.

If someone calls you weak, usually we get offended after all one really wants to be considered weak. Somewhere in using that word comes the idea of being deficient, lacking in the ability to get something accomplished.

So how could God possibly use us if we are weak. Who would want to declare that they have a weakness.

2 Cor 11:21 To my shame I must say that we have been weak by comparison.
2 Cor 11:23-31 Are they servants of Christ? — I speak as if insane — I more so; in far more labors, in far more imprisonments, beaten times without number, often in danger of death. 24 Five times I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep. 26 I have been on frequent journeys, in dangers from rivers, dangers from robbers, dangers from my countrymen, dangers from the Gentiles, dangers in the city, dangers in the wilderness, dangers on the sea, dangers among false brethren; 27 I have been in labor and hardship, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, often without food, in cold and exposure. 28 Apart from such external things, there is the daily pressure on me of concern for all the churches. 29 Who is weak without my being weak? Who is led into sin without my intense concern? 30 If I have to boast, I will boast of what pertains to my weakness. 31 The God and Father of the Lord Jesus, He who is blessed forever, knows that I am not lying.

  1. Sandra Workman says:

Pastor Ray – Harry and I just listened to your message. Again, very soul searching and thought provoking. I think of the Scripture passage that says “Examine yourself and see if your in the faith”. This is a daily walk – keep on being filled with the Spirit – confessing sin and renewing right fellowship with the Lord. Good exhortation! Blessings, H&S

God wants us to Himself, with no idols before Him. This message helps us to realize how easy it is to become distracted from the things of the Lord in our daily lives.
